Small floating dots, translucent webs in front of the eyes - a very common phenomenon. About how dangerous they are to vision, whether they can get rid of and in what cases you need to urgently go to a specialist, said the Russian ophthalmologist Anton Kazantsev, writes sb.by.

The specialist explained that from a medical point of view, "flies" are the destruction of the vitreous body. They move in synchrony with the direction of the gaze: if you look to the right, they "swim" to the right, turn the gaze to the left - they shift to the left.

“Such opacity by itself does not pose a direct threat to eye health and occurs in a large number of people. However, it is important to constantly monitor their condition, Anton Kazantsev explained. If the number of “flies” has increased dramatically, their shape has changed, you can not postpone a visit to the doctor. Such changes can be terrible symptoms of peripheral ruptures or even retinal detachment, which threatens complete loss of vision.”.

The doctor also noted that it is possible to completely clean the vitreous body, but this requires a complex surgical operation. Such intervention is associated with serious risks, so doctors resort to it only in exceptional cases. At the same time, he added, one should not rely on vitamins: the “fly” is a dense coagulated protein that cannot dissolve from them. The main prevention is a healthy lifestyle, a balanced diet and the rejection of bad habits.
