24-year-old teacher dies trying to rescue student stuck in toilet

In the Brazilian city of Guarulhos 24-year-old teacher Nayara Carmo died after falling from the technical floor of the school. A woman tried to hand over the key to a student who couldn't get out of the toilet, Need To Know reported.

The incident occurred on October 21 in the state of Sao Paulo. The student was locked because of a jammed lock. The teacher first tried to give him the key, but failed.

Then Carmo decided to get into the technical room above the toilet to drop the key from there. However, during the transition to the floor decorative tiles under her feet broke.

The woman fell through the ceiling to the first floor and suffered serious injuries. Colleagues called an ambulance, but the arrived doctors could not save her.

After the incident, police began checking the school. Investigators will have to find out whether safety requirements were met: there were no warning signs about the fragility of the ceiling in the technical room, and the coating was not designed for a person’s weight.
