Two 18-year-old couriers of phone fraudsters detained in Minsk

Two foreigners became couriers of scammers and came to the capital on their assignment, but were detained. Both are accused of fraud committed repeatedly, organized by the group on an especially large scale, reports the correspondent of the agency “Minsk-Novosti” with reference to the USC in Minsk.

One of the guys was caught in the park “Drozdy”, where he was carrying out the task of curators. During the three-day trip, he was required to move packages of money and bank cards between the hiding places. It turned out that part of the criminal episodes the young man committed with a peer. The second guest of the country was also detained.

Fraudsters for whom young people worked called potential victims under the guise of employees of various organizations and agencies to trick people into “declaring” savings. The five victims lost more than 190,000 BYN.

One of the detainees still tried to cash the money of the deceived citizen – unsuccessfully: the bank rejected the operation. For this episode, the guy is also charged. Both couriers were taken into custody.

Investigators remind citizens that law enforcement officers, bank employees, state organizations do not require to withdraw cash and transfer them to third parties. It is recommended to respond to such requests by phone, including through the messenger, as follows: stop the conversation and contact the organization on behalf of which you were called, by phone, the number of which is indicated on its official website. If unknown people convince that your personal account is hacked, used to finance a terrorist or extremist organization, you should immediately put down the phone and contact law enforcement agencies.
