Named an effective way to get rid of dangerous plaques in the vessels of the heart

The study involved 104 patients from Denmark with coronary heart disease who had not previously taken statins. They were divided into two groups: one received atorvastatin, the other a combination of rosuvastatin and ezetimibe. Vascular condition was assessed using CT scans for 18 months.
Combination therapy reduced the level of “bad” cholesterol by 65% versus 38% with monotherapy. Total plaque volume decreased by 21.1% and 13.6%, respectively. Especially noticeably decreased dangerous soft plaques - by 28.2% and 20%.
In 90% of patients on combined treatment, plaque volume decreased, in the standard therapy group - in 75%. The authors believe that intensive cholesterol reduction can partially reverse atherosclerosis.
