Guardian spent millions of orphans on an apartment in Kostroma

A criminal case against a 59-year-old local resident was sent to the Kologrivsky District Court.

The woman is accused of committing crimes under Part 4 of Article 160 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (this is appropriation, that is, theft of someone else’s property entrusted to the guilty person, committed by a person using his official position, in an especially large amount) and Part 2 of Article 174.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (this is the legalization of money on a large scale).

In 2024, after the death of the biological father of minor children in the zone of a special military operation, social and insurance payments were received to their nominal account. The defendant, who is the guardian of 16- and 17-year-old siblings who have been under her care since 2014, took advantage of the situation.

From December 2024 to January 2025, it transferred more than 3.6 million rubles from the account of the wards to its current account. The stolen funds were used to purchase a two-room apartment in Kostroma worth 3.5 million rubles, payment for realtor services (70 thousand rubles), purchase of household appliances (fridge, washing machine) and transportation costs (80 thousand rubles).

In addition to sending a criminal case to the court, the Prosecutor’s office filed a lawsuit to recognize the transaction of purchase and sale of real estate invalid and re-registration of the apartment in the ownership of minors. Also stated the demand for recovery from the accused unjust enrichment in the amount of 150 thousand rubles.

Plus, a submission was made to the head of the administration of the Mezhevsk municipal district. According to the results of its consideration, the chief specialist of the guardianship and guardianship body was brought to disciplinary responsibility for shortcomings in the work to control the expenditure of wards’ funds.
