In 53 regions of Russia covered underground gunsmiths with hundreds of guns

Employees of the FSB together with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Regardie suppressed the activities of 126 people involved, according to the special service, in the illegal trafficking and conversion of weapons in 53 regions of Russia. For two months, the security forces seized 363 firearms, more than 1.4 thousand grenades, 323 kg of explosives and tens of thousands of ammunition.

In addition, the work of 48 underground workshops, where restored the combat properties of civilian weapons and manufactured ammunition, was discontinued. This was reported by the Center for Public Relations of the FSB of Russia.

Large-scale operational-search activities took place in August and September 2026. Under the inspection of security forces were the residents of 53 subjects of the country, who are suspected of involvement in the illegal arms business.

According to the FSB, some of the defendants were engaged in restoring the combat properties of civilian weapons in specially equipped underground workshops. The converted samples subsequently entered illegal circulation. Other participants in the illegal activities were associated with the manufacture of ammunition and the sale of weapons.

During the operation, law enforcement officers discovered large arsenals of Russian and foreign production. Among the seized were 45 grenade launchers, nine machine guns, nine submachine guns and 98 machine guns.

In addition, law enforcement officials confiscated 108 pistols and revolvers, as well as 94 rifles, carbines and rifles. The total number of firearms seized was 363.

A separate part of the discovered arsenals consisted of explosives and ammunition. According to the intelligence service, 1,436 grenades and 323 kg of explosives, including TNT and gunpowder, were removed from illegal trafficking. 60,500 rounds of various calibers were also seized.

One of the main results of the operation was the termination of 48 illegal workshops. In these premises, according to the FSB, were engaged in the modernization of weapons and the manufacture of ammunition. The recovered samples were subsequently intended for illegal sale.

The operation continued a series of activities against the underground arms business. In September, the FSB and the Interior Ministry reported the arrest of 111 suspects in 43 regions of the country. Then the security forces seized 297 firearms, 223 grenades, 82.5 kg of explosives and 92 thousand rounds of ammunition. 37 underground workshops were also shut down.
