As a result of the joint operation of YAMAR Hof and the Shin Bet, an 18-year-old resident of Umm el-Fahma was detained, who swore allegiance to the Islamic State terrorist organization and planned an attack on IDF soldiers in the Old City of Jerusalem. In his house seized digital materials confirming the preparation of the terrorist attack. A prosecutor's declaration has been filed against the suspect, an indictment is being prepared.
Over the past month, officers of the Central Police Unit of the coastal district (YAMAR Hof) together with the General Security Service (SHABAK) conducted a coordinated investigation on suspicion of preparing a terrorist attack against IDF soldiers in the Old City of Jerusalem. According to the police and the Shin Bet, during the operation, an 18-year-old resident of Umm al-Fahma was detained, who, according to the investigation, swore allegiance to the terrorist organization Islamic State (ISIS) and for the past year was planning an attack on the Israeli military.
After the arrest of the suspect, YMAR Hof searched his home, during which digital materials and other evidence confirming his connection to ISIS and participation in the preparation of the terrorist attack were seized. As noted in official statements, the evidence gathered increased suspicions of supporting a terrorist organization and direct involvement in the planning of the crime.
Upon completion of the investigation, a prosecutor’s declaration was filed against the detainee, which indicates the intention of the prosecutor’s office in the coming days to file an indictment on articles on serious crimes against the security of the state, membership in a terrorist organization and preparation of a terrorist attack. Prior to filing charges, the court may extend the detention of a suspect for up to five days.
The police and the Shin Bet stressed that the successful prevention of the terrorist attack was made possible due to close cooperation between the agencies, combining the operational and analytical resources of both structures. YAMAR Hof is responsible for arrests, searches and evidence gathering, while the Shin Bet is responsible for intelligence gathering and analysis, as well as assessing national security threats. Joint operations of this kind allow timely detection and suppression of terrorist activities, ensuring the safety of citizens and military personnel of the country.
The case in Jerusalem demonstrates the effectiveness of interagency cooperation between Israeli security agencies in the fight against internal threats. The rapid identification and detention of the suspect, as well as the seizure of digital materials confirming the preparation of the terrorist attack, testify to the high level of professionalism and coherence of the actions of the Yamar Hof and the Shin Bet. An indictment is expected in the coming days, after which the case will be referred to the district court for further consideration. Experts note that such operations significantly reduce the risk of terrorist plans and strengthen public confidence in the national security system.
The operation to prevent the terrorist attack in Jerusalem was another example of the effective work of the Israeli special services and police. In the near future, an indictment and the beginning of a trial are expected, which, according to experts, will be the security of the country.
