The interior Ministry warned of new schemes of fraudsters

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation warned citizens that fraudsters have moved to a new, more complex format of criminal activity. According to the press center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, attackers are increasingly conducting multi-stage operations involving several characters and various communication channels. This approach significantly increases the effectiveness of their schemes and makes it difficult for the victim to recognize deception.

If earlier the typical scenario was a relatively simple call with the message that the bank card is blocked, now fraud is increasingly a multi-step combination. The department noted that criminals have become much better at personalizing their attacks. They scrutinize the potential victim’s social media, profession, interests, family circumstances, and digital habits. As a result, a person is offered not an abstract story, but a legend that looks directly related to his own life.

The Interior Ministry gave an approximate scenario for such a multi-stage operation. First, the victim can receive a message with a phishing link. Then there is a call allegedly from a bank or from police officers demanding to transfer money to a so-called safe account. After that, the arrival of a courier can join the scheme, who takes cash or helps to arrange new financial transactions. Thus, criminals act on a person through several channels, creating an effect of authenticity and not giving time for reflection.

In this regard, the interior Ministry urged citizens to be vigilant and critical of any unexpected messages and calls, especially when it comes to money. The Ministry reminds that real employees of banks and law enforcement agencies never require the transfer of funds to third-party accounts and do not initiate such operations by phone.
