The Central Bank of Russia set the official exchange rate of the US dollar on Thursday, October 29, at the level of 80.8664, the euro - 90.1660, the yuan - 12.0816. This is reported on the website of the regulator.
On Wednesday, October 28, the Central Bank established the following exchange rates: dollar - 80.5307, euro - 90.0977, yuan - 12.0677.
Thus, the dollar rose by 33.57 kopecks, the euro by 6.83 kopecks, the yuan by 1.39 kopecks.
The official rates of the Central Bank of the dollar and euros are used for settlements on contracts on the futures market of the Moscow Exchange, including futures contracts for the dollar / ruble (Si), euro / ruble (Eu), dollar / yuan (UCNY), euro / dollar (ED), dollar / tenge (UKZT), perpetual futures for the dollar / ruble pair (USDRUBF), euro / ruble (EURRUBF), futures for the RTS index (RTS and RTSM) and a number of other instruments.
At the auction on Wednesday, October 28, the ruble strengthened against foreign currencies. By 17:35 MSK, the yuan exchange rate (CNY/RUB TOM) on the Mosbirzh fell by 0.5% by the close of trading on October 27 and amounted to 12.0215.
Tool USDRUB TOM at 17:01 MSK fell by 0.47%, reaching .80.65.
The USDRUB TOM instrument reflects transactions with the dollar/ruble currency pair. Payments are made the next day in rubles. The time of concluding transactions is from 9:00 to 19:00 MSK.
Trading of the currency pair USDRUB TOM was held on the Moscow Exchange until June 2024. Officially, trading in the dollar was suspended after the Moscow Exchange was included in the US sanctions list. The dollar continued to trade on the over-the-counter market, where trading operations are conducted directly between participants, without the mediation of the exchange. Deals on the USDRUB TOM instrument resumed in mid-February 2026.
What now affects the ruble exchange rate
The ruble actually lost support from the additional supply of foreign currency from exporters, which grew before tax payments, said Dmitry Babin, an expert at BCS World of Investments. However, the supply itself is still quite high, even minus the “additional” amounts due to expensive oil. Brent prices continue to hold above $110 per barrel.
At the same time, the demand for currency is also at a relatively high level, primarily from importers, BCS World Investments reported. This is facilitated, among other things, by the purchase abroad of fuel and components necessary to restore production facilities and infrastructure.
What will happen to the ruble exchange rate next: expert opinions
The end of the period of tax payments in the coming sessions may lead to a decrease in the supply of foreign currency on the market from exporters, said Bogdan Zvaric, head of analysis of banking and financial markets at PSB. In addition, bidders will expect an increase in currency purchases under the budget rule, which may provoke additional speculative demand. The parameters of the November operations will be published on November 5.
As a result, the prerequisites for the transition of the major world currencies to recovery are being formed in the market, the PSB believes. Until the end of the week, there is a possibility of a rise in the yuan to the upper limit of the й11.8-12.3 range, and until mid-November, the Chinese currency may try to reach the й12.5 region, Zwarich warned.
Natalia Pyreva, head of the analytical department of Digital Broker, also noted that by the end of the week the influence of the tax period will disappear, and imports may increase as winter and New Year holidays approach, which will increase demand for the currency.
“We expect that in the near future the US dollar will stabilize in the range of 80-82, and in November may exceed the mark of 82”, – said the expert.
Investment Director of Astra Asset Management and macroeconomist Dmitry Polevoy admits that at current oil prices, the ruble against the dollar may return to the ,75-80 range. He said this on the air of the program “Markets” on the RBC TV channel. According to the expert, the ruble may be in the upper half of this range until the end of the year. Pressure on the ruble exchange rate is not expected even with a moderate decline in oil prices.
VTB My Investments investment strategist Alexei Mikheev did not rule out continuing to strengthen the ruble after the end of the tax period in October. However, he expects the ruble to weaken on the horizon of 2027 due to a change in the budget rule. From 2027, the price of cutting off oil will decrease from $59 to $50 per barrel, which can increase foreign currency purchases by the Ministry of Finance by about чения5 billion per day. In addition, a negative for the ruble may be a reduction in the key rate of the Central Bank. The analyst expects the Bank of Russia to continue easing monetary policy. This can reduce the attractiveness of ruble instruments.
