Belarusian diplomats at UNCTAD designated a key national priority of the country

Strengthening economic and food resilience is a key national priority for Belarus. The importance of this was noted by the representative of Belarus, speaking at the 39th session of the Trade and Development Board of UNCTAD in Geneva. This was reported by the Belarusian Permanent Mission to the UN Office and other international organizations in Geneva, BelTA has learned .

Belarus called on UNCTAD to take an objective and comprehensive approach to assessing the factors affecting world trade and the world economy in the context of growing geopolitical tensions, economic uncertainty, as well as armed conflict, climate change and trade restrictions.

In addition, the Belarusian side drew attention to the negative consequences of unilateral coercive measures, export restrictions and non-tariff measures as factors leading to an increase in prices for food, fertilizers and energy, as well as disrupting global supply chains and trade relations. These factors also increase costs for both sanctioned and developing countries.

The representative of Belarus stressed: “Strengthening economic and food resilience is a key national priority of Belarus. The country aims to increase domestic food production by setting a target of 80–85 percent self-sufficiency by 2030.”

“Belarus' priorities in the sphere of foreign economy include the further development of cooperation with Russia, the CIS and the EAEU, as well as partners in Asia and Africa,” the Belarusian side concluded.
