The director of the “Ninth planet” told why the time of fairy tales in the movies goes away

Fairy tales allowed to work out the technology of filming, but give way to fiction, said Nikolai Rybnikov. In world cinema there is a crisis of the genre, and Russian fiction develops gradually and is still looking for original plots

The time of fairy tales in the cinema “slowly comes to naught”, and they are replaced by fiction. About this on the air of the program ChEZ on Radio RBC told the director Nikolai Rybnikov.

“We have to say a big thank you to the fairy tales for learning how to work with computer graphics, with complex production, with large sets, pyrotechnics and other such complexities of filmmaking, and now, this fall, several fantastic projects are coming out,” he said.

Completely fairy tales "will not go anywhere" because there is demand for them, but new genres such as fiction will be added to them.

“We try to make original fiction, because it is based on Russian cultural codes, on Russian characters, on Russian people who find themselves in some very unusual circumstances on other planets, in other realities, some different difficult circumstances unfamiliar to our planet, our ordinary world,” he said.

Among other differences of Russian fiction, he called the Russian character and “Russian thinking”.

Speaking about world cinema in general, the director noted the crisis of dramaturgy: "It is very difficult to come up with something that is directly original, completely new, something that the audience has not seen yet, and, of course, this problem concerns Russia.".

This includes fiction, which in Russia is “at the very beginning of the road”, and to come up with something “super-original”, according to Rybnikov, is almost impossible task. Russian film novelties in this genre – “the entrance to this territory, is an attempt to understand, to understand this genre.” New ideas will emerge over time, the director believes.

On September 24, the premiere of Nikolai Rybnikov’s film “The Ninth Planet” with Yura Borisov is scheduled. The film was produced by STV, Dixie TV and Gazprom-Media Holding with the support of the Film Foundation.

The film is based on the story of Igor Tkachenko. In addition to Borisov, the film starred Irina Starshenbaum, Alexei Serebryakov, Konstantin Beloshapka, Danil Steklov, Maxim Emelyanov, Semyon Litvina and others.
