29-year-old Antoine de Massi, a cousin of Prince Albert II of Monaco, was found dead on October 25 in a square near the coastal area of Larvotto, said the Prosecutor General of Monaco, reports TF1 Info with reference to AFP.
The search for de Massey began after an appeal from his family, who were concerned that by noon Sunday there had been no news from him.
Monaco Attorney General Stephane Thibault told AFP that the investigation was initially opened "to establish the cause of death" and then "expanded" to detain a man "appearing on videotapes" with de Massey.
“At this stage, we are talking only about a suspect/witness of facts, the qualification of which has yet to be determined, and the version of the accident is not excluded,” he said.
The detention of the man in the evening of October 26 was extended by 24 hours, according to Monaco-Matin.
According to the source, de Massey on the night from Saturday to Sunday was seen leaving a nightclub in Monaco, while he was staggering. The detainee is a resident of Monaco and a citizen of Ukraine, reports TF1 Info. The Prosecutor General declined to comment on this information.
Christian de Massey's website states that Antoine de Massey is his son and Christian's mother is Princess Antoinette, sister of Prince Rainier III. In the official biography of Albert II, the Princely Palace indicates that he is the son of Rainier III. Antoine de Massey is a cousin of Albert II.
