A resident of Penza lost about 9.5 million rubles, believing the fraudsters, who first called her on behalf of the management house, and then introduced themselves as employees of law enforcement agencies. This was reported in the MIA of Russia in the region.

The 73-year-old woman was told about the installation of new pavilions for solid household waste and the need to purchase a key. The pensioner agreed and gave the caller the code from the SMS message. Later, she received a call from an unknown person who introduced himself as an employee of law enforcement agencies. He said that someone is trying to withdraw money from her account, and advised to declare savings for their safety.

The woman handed over to the courier near her house savings: $ 10 thousand, € 3.5 thousand and 130 thousand rubles. Then she withdrew about 8.13 million rubles in the bank. Subsequently, the fraudsters persuaded the pensioner to close all accounts, exchange the money for dollars and transfer them to another courier. The woman fulfilled the demands and gave the currency to a stranger near the house. The total damage amounted to about 9.448 million rubles.

Later, a resident of Penza realized that she was a victim of fraud, and went to the police. In fact, the incident opened a criminal case under part 4 of article 159 of the criminal code of Russia on fraud. The maximum penalty under this article is up to 10 years in prison.

A similar incident occurred the day before in Moscow. The police detained five employees of crypto exchangers and the courier of fraudsters, who took 13.3 million rubles from the 73-year-old pensioner.

The attackers called the woman, introduced themselves as employees of various departments and reported the hacking of her account on “State Services”. They said that the pensioner is suspected of financing illegal activities, and persuaded to withdraw the money for verification. The pensioner transferred the funds to their courier on Losevskaya Street.
