At the moment, the authorities of 17 regions of the country have imposed a ban on the sale of vapes, State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin said in Max.
Relevant decisions were made in the Vologda, Tomsk, Saratov, Smolensk, Nizhny Novgorod, Penza, Ryazan, Ulyanovsk regions, Nenets Autonomous Okrug, Trans-Baikal and Perm territories, North Ossetia, the Republic of Altai, Yakutia, Chuvashia, Udmurtia, Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District.
In addition, Volodin added, the governments of another 39 subjects are working on laws banning vapes. A similar bill, for example, was introduced to the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg in October.
To date, we see that more than 60% of the regions have followed the path of imposing restrictions on the sale of vapes. Experts also note a decrease in the number of stores that sell such products. Our task is to do everything to protect the health of people, primarily children, Volodin said.
In June, President Vladimir Putin signed a law that gives regions the right to establish a five-year ban on the sale of vapes, liquids to them and other electronic nicotine delivery systems from March 1, 2027. The law also extends the licensing of tobacco products to the entire chain of sale.
In Russia, the sale of vapes to minors, including devices with nicotine-free liquids, is prohibited. However, the state Duma said that the industry continues to behave irresponsibly, despite the consistent introduction of new restrictions on the sale of vapes to children and young people.
