The sun repeated the record of the XXI century in the number of outbreaks per day
On the Sun on November 7 recorded 29 outbreaks per day, which was a repeat of the record of the XXI century.

On the Sun on November 7 recorded 29 outbreaks per day, which was a repeat of the record of the XXI century. This was reported by the Solar Astronomy Laboratory of the Institute of Space Research (IKI) of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS).
Twenty-nine solar flares were officially registered on the Sun yesterday, November 7, when determining the day according to Moscow time. According to the NOAA World Catalog, this is a repeat of the record since at least 2000.
Prior to this, the same number of outbreaks per day was recorded on May 5, 2022 and December 10, 2024. At the same time, during the day Moscow time, the number of solar flares never reached 30.
“A unique feature of yesterday is that all the flares were recorded in a single group of spots number 4566, located now in the center of the solar disk,” said the laboratory.
In the previous two cases, a record number of flares were recorded in several groups of sunspots. On May 5, 2022, they occurred in groups 3004 and 3006, and on December 10, 2024, in five groups: 3912, 3916, 3917, 3920 and 3922.
In all three cases, outbreaks were predominantly categorized as C and M. The laboratory explained that at a high frequency of such flares, the Sun expends energy on a set of medium-power events, rather than on individual large explosions. Such a regime is considered more favorable for the Earth.
“Speaking of records, it should also be noted that the number of outbreaks per day obviously depends on the time zone chosen, that is, on the moment of reference. In particular, if we switch from Moscow to world time, the threshold of 30 solar flares has already crossed. This happened on the already mentioned day of May 5, 2022, when 32 events were registered on world time, the IKI RAS explained.
Until a record number of outbursts on November 7, solar activity also remained high. In less than two days, 35 flares occurred on the Sun. Their main source was a large group of spots located almost in the center of the visible disk of the star.
