Chicago professor reveals how Claude removed lecture notes for year
The Claude neural network accidentally deleted abstracts of lectures on constitutional law for the whole of 2023 and the curriculum of University of Chicago professor William Bode for the fall semester of 2026.
The Claude neural network accidentally deleted abstracts of lectures on constitutional law for the whole of 2023 and the curriculum of University of Chicago professor William Bode for the fall semester of 2026. The teacher told about this in the social network X, publishing correspondence with artificial intelligence.
Bode said the incident happened while he was at lunch. In the published correspondence, Claude admitted that it mistakenly deleted the documents and did not restore them. At the same time, the neural network found an error in the page number, but never made a correction.
Claude suggested that the professor restore the documents via Dropbox or repeat the attempt to restore them through the browser. Bode subsequently managed to recover all deleted material using Dropbox.
In 2025, Replit’s AI agent changed the structure of SaaStr community founder Jason Lemkin’s project without permission and removed his working database. The neural network reported that it was impossible to recover the data, but the entrepreneur managed to do it manually.
