From biotechnologies to sociology, we learned what will be discussed at the first forum of women scientists in Minsk

The first forum of women scientists “The role of women in science and education” will be held in Minsk on September 25. The initiators of the event were the primary organizations of the Belarusian Union of Women of the National Academy of Sciences and the Belarusian State University, supported the BSJ project, the Ministry of Education. The upcoming event was included in the action plan for the implementation of the Year of the Belarusian Woman, approved by the Council of Ministers. More information about the program of the forum was told on September 22 at a press conference in the National Press Center, sb.by correspondent reports.

Yulia Kochurko, Head of the Department of Scientific, Organizational and Legal Work of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Chairman of the primary organization of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, noted that Belarus has created all conditions for the development of science, and women scientists direct their opportunities to the development of the chosen field, while also actively participating in social, spiritual, moral, sports projects.

- Thanks to the forum, they will be able to meet, talk about their successes and plans, discuss topical issues, Yulia Kochurko said.

On September 25, the plenary session of the forum will be held on the basis of the NAS of Belarus. Three sections are also planned on this site. The first is dedicated to biotechnology and biomedicine.

- Representatives of not only the Academy of Sciences will speak at this section. Important problems of medicine in our time will be touched upon, including oncology, adult and pediatric issues, cosmetology and other areas of medicine, Yulia Kochurko informed.

The next section is devoted to future materials and technologies.

- In the technical sciences, mathematics, physics, as a rule, men predominate, but there are also women there. They will talk about interesting areas of their work and share their experience, Yulia Kochurko added.

The third section is the Digital Universe.

- Special interest in this topic is growing not only because of the growing interest in artificial intelligence, but also given the fact that we have the first female astronaut. The Academy of Sciences was directly involved in the preparation of this flight. Therefore, of course, representatives of the Academy of Sciences will take part in the section “Digital Universe” and there will be guests from Russia. Of course, in other digital areas, including artificial intelligence, reports will be presented in this section, said the chairman of the primary organization of the Belarusian Union of Women of the NAS.

BSU will host three more sections of the forum, including the section “Young women in science: contribution to science and prospects for strengthening the country’s economy”. The two sections were described in more detail by Doctor of Philological Sciences, Professor of the Department of Theoretical and Belarusian Literary Studies of the Faculty of Philology of the Belarusian State University, Chairman of the primary organization of the BSJ BSU Irina Kazakova:

- We will host a section of the humanities called “Digital progress without moral degradation”. We set a great task to raise the question of how, using all the achievements of artificial intelligence and technological progress, to preserve a person as a person. The Belarusian people are distinguished by the fact that we always honor traditions, spirituality and morality. How can this be preserved in modern society? Using, of course, everything that science gives us today. The section will be attended by women scientists from the Academy of Sciences, from BSU and other universities of the country, from various scientific organizations. There will be linguists, literary critics, historians, and ethnoculturalists. Everyone wants to participate in the discussion of such an important issue, she stressed.

Another section of the forum at BSU is “Social Sciences – the Foundation of Sustainable Life”.
