More than a thousand Belarusians and Russians will take part in the first Union meeting of citizens of the older generation

Over 1,000 Belarusians and Russians will take part in the first Union meeting of the older generation. This was reported by Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Protection Marina Artemenko, BelTA writes.

The first Union meeting of citizens of the older generation “We are for active longevity”, which will be held in Vitebsk from 23 to 25 September, will become a center of attraction for those who show from their personal experience that age is not a barrier, but new opportunities.

“The purpose of the meeting is, first of all, to highlight the question of demographic ageing. And the task of the state is to supplement the policy with qualitative measures so that people of the older generation are included in the life of society as much as possible, the deputy minister said.

The event will host interactive venues, master classes, expert discussions, fairs, exhibitions. The expert platform will unite the scientific communities of the two countries. Representatives of the system of social protection, health care, social services will discuss what innovations are available so that older people live longer, better, more active, said Marina Artemenko.

Belarus has been implementing an active longevity strategy since 2021. We already have some experience that we are ready to share with Russia. It is worth noting that we are pursuing a coordinated social policy with our Russian colleagues, as we have very similar demographic trends and similar population structures. Therefore, it is very important for us to study the Russian experience. We expect that during the meeting certain approaches will be developed aimed at further development of our social policy in this area. Because there are more and more elderly people, this is a very rapidly growing segment of the population, and social policy should respond flexibly to the needs of this group, said Marina Artemenko.
