Inpatient social institutions of the Irkutsk region, a charity project “Hear – see – smile” is being implemented, aimed at comprehensive medical support for the elderly and people with disabilities. The initiative of the Charitable Foundation “Old Age in Joy” is carried out with the support of the Presidential Grants Fund. This is reported by the press service of the regional government.
The main task of the program is the timely detection and correction of hearing and vision disorders, as well as the provision of necessary dental care. All examinations and follow-up medical services for residential residents are completely free. In total, the project will cover more than 500 people.
The program was launched in the summer of 2026 at the sites of the Novo-Leninsky Boarding Home for the Elderly and Disabled and the Zalarin Special Boarding Home. The first stage has already been completed in the Novo-Leninsky institution: all residents have been surveyed to identify health problems. According to the results of screening, more than 100 wards will soon undergo face-to-face examinations by specialized medical specialists.
As emphasized in the Ministry of social development of the region, the partnership of the Angara region with the Fund continues from 2022. As part of this interaction, not only are targeted medical issues of elderly citizens addressed, but also training of staff of social institutions is conducted, and the introduction of a long-term care system is monitored.
