Chelyabinsk heart surgeons rescued a man with a huge abscess, crushed the heart
The story of the rescue of men shared in the press service of the Ministry of health of the Chelyabinsk region

The story of the rescue of the man was shared in the press service of the Ministry of Health of the Chelyabinsk region. The patient in the anterior mediastinum formed an abscess cavity, which was filled with pus. He severely compressed the heart, disrupted the release of blood and flow. There was a threat of septic shock and death.
According to Oleg Yezhov, the story began in May. He began to fever up to 40 degrees. It was like that every day.
“I have been unable to get up lately. Most importantly, the doctors brought me back to life. I wouldn't be here now if it wasn't for them, the man admitted.
In the Chelyabinsk Regional Clinical Hospital, it was decided to conduct an emergency operation. From the pericardial cavity, surgeons extracted 200 ml of pus, which compressed the heart. The situation was complicated: Oleg had intoxication and atrial fibrillation.
“The worst thing that could happen is a purulent melting of the heart chambers, which would lead to bleeding and imminent death,” said Igor Zinkin, a cardiac surgeon at CHOKB.
Usually purulent pericarditis occurs after injuries or a foreign body. In this case, the giant abscess could have been caused by pneumonia. Chelyabinsk doctors faced only the second time in practice with the pericardium, which was almost completely filled with pus.
According to doctors, excess body weight, diabetes, kidney and lung pathology are risk factors that aggravate the course of diseases. Here, background pathologies complicated pneumonia: blood flow to the heart fell by 50%.
After surgery and therapy, the infection was eliminated, the sinus rhythm was restored, heart and multiple organ failure was stopped. Now the patient is treated on an outpatient basis and remains in touch with specialists.
