In Russia, she was revered as the intercessor of women, the keeper of the hearth and the patroness of needlewomen. The people called the day Paraskeva Dirty - October rains turned the roads into a mess - as well as Praskovya Linen, since from this date they began to crumple and tremble flax.

What to do on October 27th

The main rule of the day is peace and health care. It was considered useful to go to the doctor or finally quit the bad habit. You can sew - unlike spinning, this occupation did not anger the saint. Also on this day, it was accepted to bake a loaf or cake and share with those in need, to give alms - it was believed that the good done to others will return threefold.

Single people, especially unmarried girls, were not advised to spend the evening at home: you had to go to visit or invite someone, otherwise, according to legend, you could remain single for the rest of your life.

What not to do on October 27th

The strictest ban was on working with water: you can not wash, wash floors and dishes. It was believed that this way you can “wash out” of the house of happiness and prosperity or cry until the end of the year. Spinning was also forbidden - this threatened vision problems, and the saint, as it was believed, could be "pierced" with needles and spindles.

It was not recommended to laugh loudly and have noisy fun - they said: "Whoever laughs a lot on this day will soon cry a lot." Pregnant women were not advised to comb their hair, and young children were not bathed for fear of illness.

It was not necessary to start new important business and schedule meetings - they could turn into failure. The long road was also prohibited: the traveler was waiting for obstacles and troubles. In addition, it was impossible to refuse help and almsgiving, rude to elders and lend - this could lead to poverty.
