These professions are a thing of the past: what specialists disappear from car services
In Russia, specialists in the repair of individual components of old cars are gradually disappearing. Among such works is disassembly and adjustment of carburetors, restoration of mechanical fuel systems and repair of rare transmissions, said Irina Sedova, HR director of the Fit Service network.

According to the expert, masters with such skills are still working in the industry, but finding them is becoming more difficult. To repair such units requires not only specialized knowledge, but also practical experience with specific mechanisms, as well as suitable tools and technical documentation.
Among the rare operations Sedova also attributed brazing copper radiators and the restoration of rare gearboxes. Previously, such work was common for many car service stations, but with the change in the design of cars, the need for them is gradually reduced.
At the same time, the problem of servicing old cars is associated not only with the lack of qualified craftsmen. Owners of older cars are increasingly facing a shortage of spare parts, especially when it comes to models for which original components are no longer produced.
In particular, finding suitable parts can be difficult for repairing carburetors and fuel systems. Remixes, membranes, jiclers, as well as gears, bearings and main pairs for individual mechanisms may be in short supply.
Even if a fault can be repaired technically, repairs are not always financially justified. The high cost of rare parts and the need for complex restoration work can make car maintenance too expensive, and the result is unpredictable.
At the same time, the expert urged to distinguish between ordinary older cars and truly rare equipment. Cars of the 1990s and early 2000s, as a rule, have a fairly common design, so they can be serviced in most conventional car services.
Specialized craftsmen are more often required for owners of cars with carburetor engines and lovers of retrotechnics. For such machines, not only the availability of spare parts is important, but also the experience of a specialist familiar with the features of a particular model and its technical units.
