“It should motivate more”: Cherkashin’s love – about modern conditions for gymnasts in Belarus

Improving conditions for young gymnasts should motivate them to new achievements, not relax. This opinion was shared by the head coach of the national team of Belarus in rhythmic gymnastics, prize-winner of the Olympic Games Lyubov Cherkashin in the program "Markov". Nothing personal" on the TV channel ONT, writes sb.by.

She noted that modern children are shaped differently:

- They won't think like they did. They live here and now. And if we, parents, did everything to ensure that the current generation, which is brought to the hall, had such conditions, it’s great, we are good. The main thing is that they understand that. We did everything to make their lives easier at some point. We've improved their lives. How much they can use these improvements is another matter.

Lyubov Cherkashin also speculated about whether young athletes will have enough strength of spirit:

- The price of the medal is very high. And it seems that this is the merit of one person, because we see: this star goes, goes, goes, here she has a medal - and that's it. The price of the medal is huge because it is a huge team. And this huge team believed in one person that it would succeed. But if one fails, then the whole team goes down to zero. And that's the value of a medal. It's easy to say that because I brought her in the car in good conditions, she didn't pack up and do it. Nope. Just the time will come, the gymnast will come and grow up who will understand this and do everything.

According to the head coach, at the beginning of recruitment in groups, many are eliminated:

- And there remains the strongest who can do it. And even this strongest can now be carried by car, and in excellent conditions. In the hall on Dauman Street, a beautiful reconstruction has now taken place. There is also a separate hall, we called it a wooden one, donated by Alexander Lukashenko specifically for rhythmic gymnastics. We were preparing for the Olympics because they built it for us. And now, after years, we have a Palace of rhythmic gymnastics for a long time. Absolutely complete: everything is “infested” with gymnasts. Of course, the conditions are great. It's also celebrated by visitors. Great! Great!

However, she stressed that the conditions should not relax:

- But to say that it should somehow relax and not allow you to win certain medals and show the result, I definitely do not want. It should motivate you to do more. Surround yourself nicely!
