The annual share of the commissioning of rental housing in Belarus is planned to increase to 30%. Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Terekhov informed about this at a meeting with the President on September 22, the correspondent of the Minsk-Novosti news agency reports.

The Deputy Prime Minister, quoted by BelTA, confirmed that the country will continue the trend of increasing the volume of construction of rental housing. In just five years, they plan to introduce at least 5 million square meters of such housing.

- At the same time, we do not completely abandon state support mechanisms, preserving the fulfillment of our obligations to large families and other priority categories of citizens, Terekhov said.

According to him, in recent years, the main direction of solving the housing issue of citizens remains providing them with rental housing. Of the existing 165 thousand communal rental premises, three quarters are state housing stock, for various reasons not privatized by citizens until 2016. Most of the facilities were built in Soviet times. Also, this includes residential premises transferred from the service and maneuverable housing stock, including those owned by agricultural enterprises.

The Deputy Prime Minister said that only 14% of the housing is modern consumer qualities, built as a rental. It is especially in demand among citizens. The government pays special attention to this most promising direction. It allows to systematically solve the housing issue of citizens and ensure the uniformity of the development of regions, erecting housing where it is needed.

- Already this year, the commissioning of such housing will grow by about one and a half times and will be equal to the volume of housing construction with state support, Terekhov said.

He provided data on general housing plans. In 2026, they expect to introduce 4 million square meters under the state program, including at least 1.6 million square meters of individual housing. As provided, at least 40% of the rented – 650 thousand squares, including 135 thousand square meters. m for military personnel. With state support - 645 thousand square meters. m of housing.

The government organizes the work of the regions to form reasonable plans for the construction of rental housing. The need for qualified personnel, including for ongoing investment projects, the need to create decent living conditions to consolidate young specialists arriving at the first place of work for distribution, as well as the need for such housing for military personnel, were taken into account.

The Deputy Prime Minister said that in each region and Minsk, lists of specific houses have been formed, where rental premises will be built for different categories of citizens. The emphasis in planning is shifted towards small settlements with a population of up to 20 thousand people (the share of construction here has been increased to almost half of the total construction volume), as well as towards young specialists and social workers. First of all, the development will be where there are already schools, kindergartens, polyclinics.

Thus, in 2027 it is planned to build more than 900 thousand square meters. m of rental housing. Taking into account sustainable demand, in the future it is projected to increase the volume of commissioning to 1.2 million square meters. m of such housing in 2030.
