“The Main House” is one of the landmark buildings of the historical center of Veliky Novgorod. Its restoration will cost 259 million rubles. This amount will allow not just to paint the facade, but to carry out comprehensive work that will preserve the monument for future generations.
Experts plan to strengthen the foundation and walls to exclude further destruction of masonry, as well as return the historical appearance of stucco decorations and casings. Individual elements that have suffered greatly from time will be recreated manually from the preserved samples.
The works will be supervised by experts in the protection of cultural heritage, and the contractor will be obliged to photograph all stages. So citizens will be able to watch how the iconic building is transformed.
