The traditional youth race “To the peaks of new victories”, dedicated to the Day of National Unity, was held in the Victory Park. About 300 activists of the Central District of Minsk came to the start of the distance around Komsomol Lake, BelTA reports.

The race brought together young people aged 16 to 31 years: school students, students, residents of the district, employees of enterprises and organizations. Participants covered a distance of 5 km.
As Elena Drobush, Deputy Chairman of the Central District Organization of Minsk, Belaya Rus, said, the number of participants in the race is growing every year. “About 300 participants have gathered here today. The guys come not just to run the distance - they dedicate their sports result to a landmark state date - National Unity Day. Our race is held in free mode, each participant at the finish line receives a commemorative medal. Sporting events really bring people together, show young people’s indifference to the history of their country, and they bring this personal example to their teams.
For many participants, the start was an opportunity to test their strength and spend time with like-minded people.
First-year student of the Belarusian State University of Physical Culture Elena Serova came to the race with her friend. This is my second competition, before that I ran several distances of the Minsk Half Marathon. I myself do swimming and tennis, I have a very athletic family: my father is the champion of the USSR in water polo, and my mother works as a fitness trainer. To run today 5 kilometers in such a beautiful park is a pleasure, the first-year student shared.
Tatiana Leshchyna, an employee of the Republican Scientific and Practical Sports Center, noted that participation in such regional initiatives has already become a good tradition. We work with athletes, so we know some professional tricks that helped us run this distance easier. We participated in the youth race last year, but then we were a bit unlucky with the weather, and this time the sun is shining, the atmosphere is great. We are charged with the energy of sports and try to actively participate not only in the races, but also in the bike races, she said.
Pavel Belanov, a stage engineer at the Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theatre, was the very first to overcome the distance. This is a great event that really brings our district closer together. Sports and mass holidays are not only about health, but also about uniting the team, new acquaintances. Before that, he had already overcome the marathon in St. Petersburg, started in Moscow, and recently ran 21 kilometers in the Minsk Half Marathon. I run mainly for myself and always adhere to the main principle: you do not need to chase someone - it is better to compete with yourself yesterday and gradually progress, maintaining health, and not overdo it, said Pavel Belanov.
The organizers of the sporting event were the administration of the Central district of Minsk, district structures of the Belarusian Republican Union of Youth and the Republican Public Association “White Rus”.
