The Monk Theodora of Alexandria was a Christian ascetic who lived in the late fifth and early sixth centuries. Her memory is celebrated on September 24 (September 11, old style). The history of this saint is one of the most vivid and paradoxical examples of repentance in the Orthodox tradition. A woman who committed a grave sin managed not only to atone for it, but also to reach the heights of monastic feat, hiding her gender under a male name.
Historical context and time of life
The Monk Theodora lived in Alexandria in the second half of the fifth century, under the emperor Zenon, who ruled the Eastern Roman Empire from 474 to 491. Some sources specify that her life fell on the turning point of the V and VI centuries. Alexandria was one of the largest cities in the Mediterranean, the center of Christian learning and monastic tradition. It was here, in Egypt, that hermitage and social monasticism arose and flourished, and it was in this environment that Theodora fell after her moral fall.
Marriage and temptation
According to life, Theodora was married to a respected and pious man named Paphnutius. Tradition emphasizes that the spouses lived in love and harmony. However, the beauty of the young woman was carried away by a wealthy citizen. He began to persistently seek her attention, but Theodora rejected his courtship. Then the man asked for help from the pimp, hoping with her help to achieve the desired.
The pimp was experienced in matters of seduction. She convinced Theodore that sin committed at night would remain hidden from God and not be blamed on man. The woman believed the fraud and cheated on her husband. Soon she realized the gravity of what she had done and deeply repented. According to legend, Theodora hated her own body and began to expose herself to all kinds of torture, tormented by the consciousness of her fall. This moment was a turning point in her fate.
The Path of Repentance
Theodora did not dare to return home and went to a neighboring monastery, where she confessed her sin to a familiar abbess. The rector, seeing the sufferings of a sinner, reminded her of the story of Mary Magdalene, who washed the feet of Christ with tears, and said that the mercy of the Lord knows no limits, and repentance can cleanse from any defilement. These words strengthened Theodora in the intention to completely change her life.
She realized that her husband would be able to find her in the convent, so she cut her hair, put on men’s clothes, and under the name Theodore came to the monastery in Egypt. The abbot at first did not let the stranger out of the gate, wanting to test his intentions. Theodora spent the night at the entrance to the monastery, and in the morning again asked to receive her. She was then allowed to remain among the brothers.
Monastic feat
The monk spent eight years in the monastery. She fasted strictly, prayed a lot and performed the most difficult monastic obediences, without revealing her real name and gender. According to life, her endurance and hard work caused respect even among experienced monks. She took on the blackest work, and spent the nights in tears, fervently praying to the Lord for the forgiveness of sin and the return of the grace of chastity.
Theodore was sent to Alexandria for bread. On the way, she had to stop at the nearby Enata Monastery. The abbot’s daughter, who lived there, tried to seduce the young monk Theodore, but was refused. Later, the girl came into contact with another man, became pregnant and, hiding the name of the real father of the child, accused Theodora.
After the birth of the baby, he was brought to the monastery and declared the son of the monk Theodore. The abbot decided to expel Theodora along with the child. She did not reveal her secret and accepted the guilt of others. For seven years the monk lived not far from the monastery in a small hut made by her own hand, raising her adopted son. For the child, she asked the shepherds for milk, and, according to her life, she ate wild herbs.
Only after years of exile did the monks ask the abbot to allow Theodora to return. She came to the monastery with the pupil and lived in seclusion for another two years. Before his death, Theodore instructed the young man to keep faith, be humble and not condemn others.
Exposing mystery and demise
After the death of the monk, the monks discovered that the monk Theodore was actually a woman. Then it became clear that the accusation of adultery was false. Everyone who hurt her deeply repented and asked for forgiveness. About the feat Feodora told her husband, who for many years did not know where his wife disappeared. According to legend, he accepted monasticism and settled in the same monastery, continuing her monastic path. The reverend boy also remained a monk and later became abbot of this monastery.
Reverence and iconography
The Monk Theodore of Alexandria is revered in both the Orthodox and Catholic traditions. Her memory is celebrated on September 24 in the new style (September 11 in the old). In the Orthodox calendar it is mentioned among the saints, whose life has become an example of deep repentance and humility.
In iconography, the Monk Theodora is most often depicted in male monastic vestments - as the monk Theodore. This is due to the peculiarity of her feat: she spent a significant part of her life in a monastery, hiding her gender. On icons, she appears as an elder with or without a beard, depending on the twig, with a monastic robe and a doll. Sometimes she is depicted with her adopted son.
The spiritual meaning of life
The story of Theodore of Alexandria is the story of a radical spiritual revolution. A woman who committed a grave sin did not just repent, but literally rebelled against her former life. She renounced everything that constituted her earthly existence: marriage, feminine nature, in her own name. Her feat is an example of how repentance can turn into asceticism, and falling is the beginning of the path to holiness.
The life of Theodora emphasizes several important spiritual truths. First, the mercy of God knows no bounds, and sincere repentance can cleanse even the worst sinner. Secondly, humility and obedience are more valuable than external exploits: Theodora did not seek fame and did not justify herself when she was unjustly accused. Thirdly, the condemnation of the neighbor is dangerous: the monks who expelled Theodora only after her death learned the truth and repented of their cruelty.
Theodore of Alexandria in the folk tradition
In the national calendar, the day of memory of the Monk Theodora of Alexandria received several names: Fedorina evenings, Fedora Autumn, Fedora - soaking the tails and Fedora Kapustnitsa. This day is associated with many traditions and signs that reflect the life and economic way of the Russian village.
By the end of September, the summer heat was finally gone, frequent rains and road slush began. Hence the names of Fedor Autumn and Fedor – soak your tails. The peasants tried to finish the main work in the field and garden. This day was called the third meeting of autumn and said: "Fyodor summer ends, autumn begins." The last onions were removed from the beds, beekeepers transferred hives to omshaniks, checked out outbuildings and stocks before the onset of cold weather.
Particular attention was paid to winter. The men went to the field to see how the crops rose and assessed their condition. Thick, strong greens were considered a good sign for the future harvest. The day was also called Fedora Cabbage - because of the beginning of autumn harvests of cabbage. Vegetables in this period occupied the main place on the table: they cooked shyu from it, cooked blueberries, baked pies and cakes with cabbage filling. A significant part of the harvest was cut and fermented for the winter.
But the main tradition of Fedorin day was the evening women's gatherings. Hence another name of the holiday - Fedorina evenings. Girls and married women gathered in one of the houses and did work that was more convenient to do together. Some cut and stewed cabbage, others spinned, knitted and patched clothes. Such meetings could go on for more than one day. They talked, told stories, joked and sang. When the main work was over, they laid the table, the treat for which was brought in a fold, drank tea and only late in the evening went home. Men at this time were engaged in household affairs and brewed beer for autumn gatherings.
There was also a custom that was called “Autumn”. The villagers together collected food and preparations for the local priest - vegetables, fruits, pickles, jam and other supplies. Women came to help his family with the housework, cleaned up the house, in the yard and barn, helped prepare for the winter.
The Monk Theodore of Alexandria is one of the most unusual saints in the history of Christianity. Her life combined a deep fall and the highest feat, female nature and male monastic service, mystery and exposure. She became an example of the fact that sincere repentance can transform a person beyond recognition. In the people's memory she remained not only as an ascetic, but also as the patroness of autumn cares, cabbage preparations and women's gatherings. And today, on September 24, Orthodox believers remember her feat, asking the saint for help in correcting their mistakes, strengthening their faith and patience.
In the national calendar, this day is called Fedora Zamochi Tails (or Fedorina Evenings). It is believed that it is from this day that summer finally ends, and autumn enters into full force: “In Fedor, summer ends, autumn begins.” During this period, it often begins to rain and slush, so they said: "Autumn Fedors stick the hem (from mud)".
On Fedorina, evenings were held “the third meeting of autumn”. Our ancestors believed that not every summer will reach Fedora. There is also a saying about two Fedors in a year: “Two Fedoras a year – autumn and winter, one – with dirt, and the other – with cold.” If September 24 was damp and dirty, it was considered commonplace for early autumn.

Today, on September 24, 2026, people with the names Victor, Herman, Dmitry, Karp, Lev, Nikolai, Peter, Roman, Sergey and Fedor, as well as women with the names Evdokia and Ia, celebrate their names. This day in the church calendar is associated with the memory of St. Theodore of Alexandria, St. Silouan of Athos and the transfer of the relics of St. Sergius and Herman of Valaam, so these saints are the main patrons of the birthday children. A special place among the names is occupied by Fedor and his female form Theodore - in honor of the most reverend Theodora, whose history of repentance and monastic feat is remembered today. If there are people around you with these names, do not forget to congratulate them on Angel Day, wishing them good health, peace and prosperity.
In the national calendar, September 24 is called Fedorina evenings, as well as Fedora Autumn, Fedora - soaking the tails and Fedora Kabbage. This day is considered the third, final meeting of autumn: according to peasant observations, from this time the summer heat finally went away, protracted rains and autumn muddy began. In the morning, the faithful went to the temple, where they remembered St. Theodore of Alexandria, St. Silouan of Athos and the transfer of the relics of Sergius and Herman of Valaam, asking in prayers for help in correcting their own mistakes and strengthening in the faith. By September 24, the peasants tried to complete the main work in the field and garden: they removed the last bow from the beds, transferred the hives to the omshaniks, checked outhouse buildings and supplies before the cold. Special attention was paid to winter crops - men went to the field to watch the crops rise, and thick, strong greens were considered a good sign for the future harvest. There was also a custom, which was called “Autumn”: the villagers together collected vegetables, fruits, pickles and jam for the local priest, and women helped his family on the household, restored order in the house and in the yard, preparing for the winter.
The main tradition of Fedorin day were evening women's gatherings, from which the holiday got its name. Girls and married women gathered in one of the houses and engaged in work that was more convenient to do together: some chopped and stewed cabbage, others spinned, knitted and patched clothes. Such meetings could go on for days, and the work was accompanied by songs, jokes and stories. When the main work was over, they covered the common table, the treat for which was brought in a fold, drank tea and went home late at night. Men at this time were engaged in household affairs and brewed beer for autumn gatherings - the most tasty was the curl, which was aged in large clay corchages. Since the day was called Cabbage, cabbage dishes were necessarily served on the table: shy, blueberries, pies and cakes with cabbage filling. It was believed that if a young couple tried a cabbage treat together, their union would be strong and happy, and women who dreamed of children were advised to eat more cabbage. There was also a sign regarding clothing: Fedor should wear things of golden tones, which symbolized light and harvest and attracted happiness to the house.
The folk beliefs of this day contained strict prohibitions, the violation of which, as believed, could cause trouble. It was not recommended to wash your hair - along with water, according to signs, it was possible to "wash away" memory, mental clarity and protection from diseases. It was not necessary to raise other people’s belongings and money from the ground, especially at crossroads or at the doorstep: along with the find, you could take away other people’s diseases and troubles. Beating dishes was considered a bad sign, foreshadowing a series of small quarrels and failures, and it was not advised to start important affairs, conclude serious agreements and make large purchases on this day - the plan could encounter obstacles. Married women were not recommended to be too diligently prettier, so as not to cause jealousy of her husband, and newlyweds - to cook potato dishes, which, according to legend, led to family quarrels. Gossip, slander and empty talk were not welcomed: careless words could turn into conflicts. Instead, the day was supposed to be spent in labor, needlework and warm communication with loved ones, and on the night of September 25, it was advised to remember a dream - it was believed that it would come true on the third day.
On September 24, 2026, the Moon is in a growth phase in the sign of Aquarius. Aquarius is a sign of air ruled by Uranus and Saturn, a symbol of freedom, non-standard thinking, friendship, technology and collective processes. The growing Moon in Aquarius increases the craving for independence, experiments, communication in the circle of like-minded people and social activity. This is the day when you want to break out of routine, break the rules and find unusual solutions. However, Aquarius can bring emotional detachment, unpredictability and a tendency to stubbornness. The day is favorable for intellectual work, teamwork, volunteering, work with technology and innovation.

There is a growing interest in technology, science, social processes and collective action.
How to behave:
What to avoid:
Remember, the Aquarius Moon is a time of freedom and innovation, but also a time of detachment. Try to find a balance between the mind and the feelings, and the day will be productive and harmonious.
On September 24, 2026, the growing Moon in Aquarius makes the day ambiguous for cutting hair and nails: Aquarius is a sign of air, freedom and unpredictability, and although the rising Moon generally favors growth and renewal, its position in this sign is considered rather neutral with a bias in undesirable for hairdressing and nailwork - it is believed that haircutting in the days of Aquarius can lead to the fact that the hair will become confused, cut or poorly shaped, and the nails will become more brittle and prone to stratification; besides, it increases the risk of doing too much with the nails. If you still decide on the procedure, it is better to give preference to easy trimming of the tips, hygienic treatment of the cuticle without aggressive design and do not plan a radical change in image - but staining, laminating and building up today it is better to postpone, since the result may be unpredictable. In general, the day is more suitable for care than for cardinal changes in appearance, and if there is an opportunity to transfer a visit to the master on the day of the moon in Taurus, Leo or Virgo - this will be a more successful solution.
September 24, 2026 carries a unique numerical vibration, which is composed of all the components of the date. If you add up the number of the day (2 + 4 = 6), the number of the month (9) and the year (2 + 0 + 2 + 6 = 10, then 1 + 0 = 1), then in total we get 6 + 9 + 1 = 16, and then 1 + 6 = 7. Thus, the number of the day is seven – the number of mystery, spiritual search, intuition and inner analysis. The seven are influenced by the planet Neptune, which gives the day a mystical, thoughtful and slightly detached character. This is the number of those who seek the truth, ask deep questions, and are not content with superficial answers. In combination with the growing Moon in Aquarius, the seven enhances intellectual and spiritual activity: today thinking, meditation, studying esoteric practices and finding non-standard solutions are especially good. However, a seven can also bring feelings of loneliness and a desire to withdraw, so it is important not to isolate yourself completely from others.
Numerology of the day becomes especially interesting if you calculate a personal number for each person. The date of your birth (7) is added to the date of your birth (the day of the month in which you were born) and is brought to the unambiguous number. For example, for those born on the 1st, the personal number will be 7+1=8 – the number of power, finance and career achievements, which makes the day favorable for business negotiations and planning. For those born on the 5th: 7 + 5 = 12, 1 + 2 = 3 - the number of creativity and communication, the day is suitable for self-expression and meetings. For those born on the 9th: 7+9=16, 1+6=7 – a doubled seven, a day of deep insights and spiritual work. Those born on the 2nd of the year (7+2=9) should show mercy and complete old affairs, and those born on the 8th of the year (7+8=15, 1+5=6) should pay attention to family and home. Thus, everyone can tune in to the energy of the day, knowing their personal number, and use it as efficiently as possible.
Based on Day 7 and the position of the Moon in Aquarius, September 24, 2026 is a day when you should not make hasty decisions and start noisy events. It is better to devote time to introspection, training, information work and spiritual practices. The number 7 does not favor major financial transactions and adventures, but it is great for research, writing, programming and anything that requires concentration and depth. The Aquarius Moon will add non-standard thinking, so today you can find a solution to a long-standing problem, looking at it from a different angle. Avoid conflicts, gossip and empty conversations - the seven does not tolerate fuss. It is useful to be alone with yourself, write down thoughts in a diary, do meditation or walk in the fresh air. The number 7 is also associated with intuition: trust your inner voice, but check the facts. In the evening, it is good to read, learn something new or just relax in silence - this will help to recuperate and prepare for a new day. How to calculate the number of fate
The night of September 24, 2026, is influenced by the growing moon in Aquarius, a sign of air ruled by Uranus and Saturn, which gives dreams a special symbolism. Aquarius is associated with the collective unconscious, technology, future and non-standard ideas, so dreams of this night are often prophetic in the field of social processes, friendship and scientific discoveries. If you dreamed of crowds of people, meetings, chats, social networks, flying machines, electricity, lightning, stars or water in an unusual state, these are signs of Aquarius, indicating impending changes in your environment or the need to break out of your usual routine. Uranus can make dreams chaotic, bright and unpredictable, so you should not look for strict logic in them - it is more important to capture the emotional background and key images. Since the moon is growing, dreams often carry creative energy: they tell you where to direct forces for growth and development. However, Aquarius can distance the dreamer from the emotions, so dreams may seem cold and detached – this is normal, because they appeal to the mind, not the senses. Notice dreams where you are in a group, chatting with strangers, or solving technical problems—they may hold the key to future possibilities.
From the point of view of numerology, the night of September 24, 2026 is colored by the vibration of the number 7 (2+4+9+2+0+2+6=25, 2+5=7), which is considered the number of mystics, seers and seekers of truth. Dreams seen on this night have increased depth and can carry hidden messages from the subconscious or even from the collective unconscious. The seven is associated with Neptune, the planet of illusions, intuition and spiritual revelation, so dreams can be vague, symbolic and multilayered: the same image can have several meanings, and they can be solved only through self-observation. If in a dream you saw numbers, books, water, mirrors, labyrinths or travels, these are signs of the seven, indicating the need to delve into yourself, find answers to old questions or complete an internal search. The number 7 does not like fuss and superficiality, so the dreams of this night should not be interpreted hastily - it is better to write them down in a diary and return to them in a few days, when emotions subside. In addition, seven favors prophetic dreams, especially if you ask a specific question before bedtime. The combination of the rising moon in Aquarius and the number 7 makes the night of September 24 ideal for spiritual practices, meditation and working with dreams: trust intuition, write down images and do not shy away from "strange" dreams - among them may be the key to an important life stage.

On September 24, 2026, the Earth is covered by a second autumn magnetic storm caused by a large coronal hole on the Sun - a dark band that stretches from the south pole of the star to the equator and its equatorial edge touches our planet. The probability of a magnetic storm on this day is estimated at 65% - this is the highest figure for the next three days, while the chance of geomagnetic disturbances is 20%, and the probability of a calm magnetosphere - only 15%. Kp-index values are expected to reach 5, which corresponds to a weak magnetic storm of the G1 level, and the planetary Ap index is forecast at 25, confirming increased geomagnetic activity. The surge was caused by a stream of fast solar wind that will hit the Earth after a period of temporary lull: a series without flares was interrupted only on September 19 by a weak flare of C3.3 level, and in general the Sun remains calm, and after September 25, the geomagnetic situation should normalize.
To make it easier to endure the geomagnetic storm on September 24, experts recommend first getting enough sleep, drinking more water and reducing fatty foods in the diet, eliminating alcohol and coffee, which additionally load the cardiovascular system. You should avoid stress and heavy physical work, often ventilate the room and spend time in the fresh air - walks will help stabilize pressure and improve well-being. If you have chronic diseases, do not forget to take prescribed medications in a timely manner and keep the necessary drugs on hand. And most importantly – do not panic: doctors note that the constant expectation of poor health in itself can provoke it, so try to maintain a calm emotional background. If the condition worsened significantly - there was a severe headache, pressure jumps, heart pain or rhythm disturbances - do not postpone a visit to the doctor. Remember that the storm level G1 is considered weak, will not last long, and by September 25, the geomagnetic background will begin to return to calm.
