Space travel through books: how the updated library works in the Belgorod district
The institution in the village of Maysky has been extensively updated according to the national project “Family”

VR glasses, paving astronomy, mobile planetarium and books about space. All this is now available to young residents and guests of the village. The library was turned into a thematic art space, in which extracurricular classes are held - acquaintances with the galaxy.
Interest in knowledge
The theme for design was not chosen by chance. According to Valentina Belovolova, director of the Central Library System of the Belgorod District, the idea arose after astronomy was removed from the school system. There are no lessons, and the interest of young Belgorod residents in space remained. Therefore, together with the May Gymnasium, they conduct appropriate classes, the good of which now there are all conditions for this.
More than 8 million rubles were allocated for the transformation. This is money from the federal, regional and municipal budgets. Images of Gagarin and Tereshkova appeared on the walls of the library, paper lanterns in the form of planets appeared on the ceilings. A bookcrossing zone was installed before the entrance.
Personal space
There are several thematic areas in the library. One of them is the Galaxy of Childhood. For children, there are game libraries, the School of Young Astronomer and the Cosmo Art workshop. In this area, you can also find tactile books with interactive elements, techniques for shooting, recording podcasts and conducting live broadcasts.
In the zone "Station of periodicals" children get acquainted with newspapers and magazines. It has an interactive panel. It provides access to news and digital databases.
The library is now visited by about 2,000 people. Half of them are children. As Valentina Belovolova noted, the cultural space “Window to the Universe” is visited by whole delegations. According to the plan, the project should increase the number of guests by 30%, the library is sure that they will easily exceed it.
