Kostromich honored the memory of the defenders of Moscow in Zelenograd

Representatives of the Kostroma community held a commemorative action on the territory of the former Kryukovo station in Zelenograd. The event was timed to coincide with the 85th anniversary of the Battle of Moscow. During the Great Patriotic War, one of the most important frontiers of the defense of the capital took place here.

The Moscow direction was defended by units of the 16th Army, whose headquarters was headed by a native of the Kostroma region, Hero of the Soviet Union, Army General Mikhail Malinin. In the course of heavy fighting, Soviet troops defeated the enemy, creating conditions for the transition of the Red Army to the counteroffensive.

Kostroma community emphasizes the special role of Mikhail Malinin in the history of the region and the country. He participated in the preparation of key operations of the Great Patriotic War, including the battle for Moscow, Orel-Kursk, Vistula-Oder and Berlin operations. Malinin began his military service as a Red Army training team of the rifle regiment, and finished as first deputy chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the USSR.

In the Kostroma region continue to perpetuate the memory of the famous military commander. At the initiative of Governor Sergey Sitnikov, a chess tournament in his name is held annually. The bust of the general is installed on the Alley of Heroes in Kostroma, and with the support of fellow citizens, a square dedicated to him was opened. The name Malinin is also worn by the street and library in Antropov, the museum and the youth squad of the gymnasium No. 34 in Kostroma.

The program of the event in Zelenograd included a rally at the stele “Kryukovo – district of military valor” and laying flowers at the monument to Marshal Konstantin Rokossovsky, a memorial complex and a mass grave. Participants also met with high school students. Granddaughter of General Nadezhda Malinina told schoolchildren about her grandfather and his participation in the organization of major military operations.
