Lukashenko proposes to review Belarus-Pakistan relations and joint projects

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko proposed to conduct a serious audit of relations between Belarus and Pakistan at a meeting with Chairman of the Senate of this country Said Yusuf Raza Gilani, the correspondent of the Minsk-Novosti news agency reports.

The Head of State drew attention to the significant experience of Said Yusuf Raza Gilani in various positions, including in executive and legislative authorities. Alexander Lukashenko also noted the practical knowledge of the President of the Senate, especially in the field of economics.

- I have a very serious request to you, considering your weight in Pakistan, that we conduct a serious audit of our relations and existing projects within the framework of the intergovernmental commission and reach the areas of cooperation that Pakistan and Belarus need today. So that there are no delays in the implementation of these projects, the President noted.

The head of state also asked to convey the kindest words and wishes of health to the current Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, as well as former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. Alexander Lukashenko thanked them for everything they have done to develop Belarusian-Pakistani relations and expressed hope that much will be done in the future.

The President mentioned the option proposed by the Pakistani side during his visit to Sharif.

- He suggested a good option (we absolutely support it, we have relevant experience) to establish close interregional cooperation. If the strength, desire and work of parliamentarians are directed in this vein, we can achieve a lot in our relations, Alexander Lukashenko said.

The Belarusian leader also urged to take advantage of the moment and solve all long-standing problems.

The President of the Senate of Pakistan thanked the President for the excellent reception he received personally and the entire delegation.

- This is my first visit to Belarus. And we consider our friendship something very important, he said.

The Chairman of the Senate congratulated the President of Belarus and the Chairman of the Council of the Republic on the 30th anniversary of the Upper House of Parliament. He also praised the results of the meeting, mentioning that Belarus and Pakistan cooperate very effectively on different platforms (UN, SCO, Inter-Parliamentary Union, etc.).

- We touched upon the specific issues of developing economic relations, because today diplomacy and economics are practically the same thing. The steps that need to be taken were discussed. We have signed about a hundred memorandums of understanding and now we need to convert them into concrete actions. We need to focus on the implementation of the decisions taken. A lot of work, but we will cope, — said the Chairman of the Senate of Pakistan.
