Shop forced to pay Muscovites compensation for rabid hamsters
A family of Muscovites managed to sue a pet store where they sold animals suffering from a deadly disease - rabies

As told earlier “MK”, rabies was found in two hamsters – Naisy and Pitchy, which the young girl bought in a chain store near the metro “Prague” in October 2024. From day one, Pitchie felt unwell and slept the whole time. At some point, the rodent began to rush around the cage, he began to have seizures, the hamster bit off a piece of his tongue. A doctor was called, but the animal could not be saved. The owners submitted the corpse for analysis, which revealed the presence of Pitchy rabies virus. Soon Naisy died of the same disease. A two-month quarantine was imposed on the apartment and its residents. An old toy terrier was removed from the family and sent for overexposure under the close supervision of veterinarians. The girl and her parents had to take rabies shots.
After recovering from the turmoil, Muscovites decided to receive compensation from the outlet. But the administration of the pet store refused to fork out. The entrepreneurs insisted that when selling the hamsters were healthy, and other animals from the same batch of rabies virus was not found. Then the victims filed a lawsuit in the magistrates court of the district of Lublino. The judge of the 265th precinct found them right. The pet store will return the cost of hamsters (1504 rubles), reimburse the cost of treatment Pitchy (15900 rubles), pay a penalty (16359 rubles), moral damage (50 thousand rubles) and a fine (41881 rubles). The district court, where the defendants complained, upheld this decision.
