The Ministry of Forestry of the Nizhny Novgorod region reacted to the frequent cases of bears reaching people, noting the absence of aggression from animals.
In Lyskov district, near the village of Velikovsky, hunting inspectors since September are constantly watching a bear with cubs: animals are attracted by the crop of acorns. Behavior is non-aggressive - when meeting a person, they run away, so there is no basis for regulatory measures. This situation has been observed for more than 10 years, the locals are calm about the appearance of wild animals, and the facts of aggression during this time have not been recorded.
The number of bears in the Volga part of Lyskov district remains within the average values. In the autumn hunting season of 2026, two individuals were mined near Velikovsky, it is planned to produce another eight. The Ministry recalled that the extraction of bears with cubs this year is prohibited by federal law.
In Sarov in the second half of September and the first days of October noted the presence of the bear and its traces in the vicinity of the forest, aggression was not. The territory was examined along the perimeter of the city, as well as from the Pervomaisk and Diveevsky district - no additional traces were found. Employees of the Ministry organized a meeting with representatives of the MBU “Urban Forestry of Sarov”, documents are being prepared for a detailed survey of the territory.
The agency reminds: if you find bears in settlements, you need to contact the environmental dispatching service "Green Phone" on 8 (831) 433-22-11 or directly to the interdistrict hunting departments of the Ministry of Forestry. Current phones are posted on the website of the department.
