Young swans from Alexander Lake were taken to the Lopatinsky Garden for overexposure

The head of the city, Alexander Novikov, supported the concerns of the residents of Smolensk about the swans who settled in the Alexander Lake. He noted that the birds remained in the pond because of the habit of receiving feeding from people, but stressed that it is absolutely impossible to feed them bread. According to him, bread poses a serious threat to the life of birds, as it causes fermentation in the stomach and can lead to blockage of the esophagus.

Due to the fact that the parents flew away, leaving the chicks alone, the city administration, together with the Ministry of Forestry of the Smolensk region, decided to take the babies for overexposure to the Lopatinsky Garden. It was noted that without the help of adult birds, it will be extremely difficult for them to survive in Lake Alexander, especially in the conditions of the approaching cold.

The process of catching swans from the water was provided by the specialists of the emergency rescue team of the city of Smolensk and the emergency rescue team in the waters of the SOGBU Fire and Rescue Center. During the work, the staff acted as carefully as possible so as not to cause any harm to the birds.

All the necessary conditions have already been created for small swans in the Lopatinsky Garden. The chicks were given a warm heated room, provided with grain and water. In addition, they are planned to be kept separately from adults for mandatory quarantine.

Alexander Novikov thanked all concerned citizens who reported on the situation, and stressed that the fate of the birds did not go unnoticed, thanks to which a new living story appeared in the Lopatinsky Garden.
