In the southeast of the Republic of Tatarstan, it is planned to create a geopark that will cover the Leninogorsk, Almetyevsky, Bugulma, Cheremshan and Sarmanovsky districts. The corresponding draft decree of Rais RT is currently undergoing anti-corruption expertise, Tatar-inform reports.
It is planned that the boundaries of the geopark will include both protected natural zones and objects of republican significance. Special attention will be paid to natural, geological, historical, archaeological, industrial and cultural heritage with significant scientific, educational and tourist potential.
To clearly define the boundaries of the future geopark, a comprehensive inventory of geological formations, protected areas, archaeological and historical and cultural monuments, as well as industrial heritage objects will be carried out. The Institute of Spatial Planning of Tatarstan, leading scientific institutions of the Academy of Sciences of the republic and district administration will take part in this process. The result will be the development of detailed cartographic materials and a reasoned justification for the selection of objects.
The government of Tatarstan will approve the final boundaries, name and legal status of the geopark. An interdepartmental working group will also be formed to prepare the documentation for applying for the territory to join the UNESCO Global Geoparks Network.
The implementation of this project is designed to stimulate the development of sustainable tourism, increase the scientific and educational potential of the region, as well as strengthen the international prestige of Tatarstan. Among the key tasks are also the study, preservation and comprehensive protection of the geological, biological, industrial, historical and cultural heritage of the republic.
