According to Rosstat, for the month prices in Novgorod region increased by 0.39%, and annual inflation reached 7%, which is higher than the average for Russia. In August, compared to the previous month, services and non-food products became more expensive, and food products fell in price, the press service of the Novgorod region branch of the North-Western Main Directorate of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation reported.
Vegetables and fruits have significantly decreased in price primarily due to the harvest of a new harvest of cabbage, potatoes, onions, beets and carrots. Also in August, the market receives a lot of fruits from the southern regions of Russia and from foreign suppliers, so cheaper grapes and lemons.
But sugar continued to rise. During the harvest season, the demand for it increased, and the supply temporarily decreased, as the reserves of the previous sugar beet crop ran out, and the mass processing of the new one has not yet begun. In addition, manufacturers took into account increased costs in selling prices.
Of non-food products, electronics, household appliances and communication equipment rose the most because of the summer weakening of the ruble. Also increased prices for used foreign cars, which were in high demand with limited supply.
Head of the Economic Department of the Bank of Russia for the Novgorod region Evgeny Dolgikh noted that in August, railway travel became cheaper for residents of the region. This was due to the seasonal factor: the statistics included pre-purchased tickets for September and October, when demand for transportation and their cost traditionally decrease.
