In Russia, Grandparents Day is celebrated annually on October 28, in 2026 the date falls on Wednesday. The holiday has no official status, but folk love has made it its own: concerts are held in kindergartens and schools, grandchildren make postcards, and families gather for tea and review old photo albums.

The date was chosen not by chance: the end of October in Russia was associated with the Autumn Grandfathers - the days of remembrance of ancestors, when they remembered the older generation and felt the connection between generations. There is a more prosaic version – in 2009, Dutch florists proposed to give grandparents houseplants on this day as a symbol of the connection between roots and young shoots.
