The results of a large-scale social research show that Belarusians have developed as a nation

In the top of their own values – health and family, the main achievement of the country they consider peaceful life, began to spend more on food and clothing and do not want to move to another country. Belarusians trust their President, highly appreciate his role in maintaining peace and security, socio-economic stability and strengthening the country's position in the international arena. These are the results of a large-scale republican sociological survey of public opinion, which was conducted by the Institute of Sociology of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus by order of the Belarusian Institute of Strategic Studies in July-August 2026.

The data were presented in stages: the first block was devoted to the socio-economic development of the country, the second to socio-political topics. The task of social research was to get an objective picture on the principle of equality and a sample population, when the opinion of a variety of people is important. The published figures are perhaps the most honest confidence test result. How do you build tomorrow without knowing what people think today? It is important and topical issues that make social research not a report, but a development tool, and the data obtained allow you to see the strengths and weaknesses of all important areas.

Social and political topics included questions about how Belarusians assess the work of the President. According to the published data, the vast majority of citizens trust Alexander Lukashenko and are satisfied with the development of the regions of the country. At the same time, the activities of the Head of State related to ensuring security in the country and preserving peace against the background of the tense international situation were most appreciated. Thus, 90% of respondents rated the President’s successful activity in ensuring security in the country, 89.8% – in maintaining peace in the country against the background of the tense world situation. According to political scientist Vadim Borovik, the perception of security by citizens consists of a whole complex of factors directly related to the quality of life: This is not only security in the context of a peaceful sky overhead. It is also security in an economic and social sense. This complex includes social security, access to medical care, public order, road safety, as well as the ability of a citizen to receive assistance and protection from the state and law enforcement agencies. Speaking about the preservation of peace, the political scientist noted that this task requires a systematic approach and is based not only on diplomatic efforts

- In order to be strong, independent, in order to ensure peace, it is necessary to have a strong economy and a stable socio-economic sphere.

The political maturity of the Belarusian society allows citizens to assess the effectiveness of the system of state power in specific cases. Peace is a basic value for Belarusians, and the efforts of the Head of State to preserve it are highly valued. It is worth noting that Belarusians consider participation in the elections, primarily the President, to be an effective mechanism for their political participation in society.

- Citizens are sure that their will can have an impact on the political system, and the election of the President is the main form of political participation in the life of the country, very important for people, — draws the attention of doctor of political sciences analyst BISI Svetlana Aleynikova.

However, political parties, public associations and other structures are not so in demand, the expert drew attention to:

- They have great reserves to show people their ability to solve certain problems. But so far there is no huge request for them. Belarusians were also asked who they feel in the first place, given that people think differently about themselves and their attitude to the country and the world. Thus, 81.7% of respondents said that they feel themselves citizens of Belarus, 11.8% - residents of their city, village, village.

- More than 80% of Belarusians chose the answer that they feel themselves primarily citizens of Belarus – a sovereign, independent, free, democratic country, said Nikolai Myslivets, director of the Institute of Sociology of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. This is symbolic, especially considering the fact that the data were announced on the eve of the National Unity Day. Such self-identification suggests that the long-term plans we outline can be successfully implemented. If a person expresses his attitude towards his country in this way, it indicates his motivation, interest and understanding of the sense of responsibility. According to the expert, such a civic, national-state identity is equally characteristic of all generations of Belarusians.

- This means that we are not just talking about preserving historical memory. Our work on broadcasting traditional values, preserving the experience of our ancestors, forming a sense of respect for our country, our people, patriotic qualities gave results, Myslivets said.

The fact that the majority of respondents clearly associate themselves with the Republic of Belarus and consider it their Motherland clearly shows that the Belarusian nation has taken place. And Belarus as an independent state also took place, draws the attention of Candidate of Political Sciences, Associate Professor of Brest State University named after A. S. Pushkin, Chairman of the Brest Regional Branch of the Belarusian Society of Political Scientists Yevgeny Skakun:

- First of all, the merit of Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, who made a huge contribution to the formation of Belarusian sovereignty and independence, is clearly visible. Also important is the contribution to the formation of national and state self-identification of authorities, political parties, socio-political and youth organizations. And, of course, the historical memory of Belarusians played a positive role in self-identification. The events of September 17, 1939, are perceived by our citizens as an act of historical justice. The figures of the sociological survey, which was conducted on the eve of National Unity Day, speak for themselves and are largely symbolic. Family and health are at the top of priorities, traditional values are preserved in society. Speaking of health. In the course of the social survey, respondents were asked to answer the following question: “Suppose that you are growing a son / daughter. Who would you like him/her to work with? By a large margin in this ranking of professions, the medical field was the leader. The pedagogical and engineering areas also have a very stable position. Rector of the Belarusian State Medical University Sergey Rubnikovich in this regard noted that in the walls of four medical universities of the country will be glad to see intelligent, talented young people:

- We hope that in the formation of such a trusting public opinion there is our merit. Several times a year, medical universities hold open days, there is a free online course to prepare for the targeted form of training. We are making every effort to select motivated students who know the relevant subjects well, are able to learn qualitatively and in the future will bring many benefits to Belarus.

The prestige of the medical profession is high - this is confirmed by public opinion and passing points. However, not only the profession, but also medicine in general. According to Olga Kolyupanova, head of the main department of personnel work and professional education of the Ministry of Health, this is not surprising, because the state allocates huge funds for the development of health care, the modernization of medical institutions, the introduction of high technologies:

- It raises the prestige of medicine. An integrated approach to career guidance is of great importance. For schoolchildren, excursions to simulation centers, practical training laboratories are organized.

The measures taken by the state aimed at popularizing the profession of a teacher are bearing fruit, the head of the department of general secondary education of the Ministry of Education Irina Karzhova believes:

Alexander Grigorievich has repeatedly stated that the school is a temple, and the teacher is a person of the President and the support of the state. Teachers are exempted from unusual functions, excessive document circulation. They are given many opportunities and incentives to improve their skills. Local executive bodies, which are the founders of schools, kindergartens, are trying to create comfortable conditions for young professionals, including helping to solve housing issues. The result obtained in the course of sociological research can not but rejoice – it suggests that conscious people will come to pedagogy and real spheres of the economy who will work with dignity for the benefit of the country.
