Today the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church visited the village of Akulinino in the city district of Domodedovo. His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia headed the Divine Liturgy in the local church of Archangel Michael, sharing prayer with parishioners.
For this church, the present worship is of particular importance. The history of the temple begins in 1687, but in 1935 the church was closed and destroyed. After many decades, the shrine found a second life. In 2024, Patriarch Kirill consecrated the revived church, and today he celebrated a liturgy here for the first time.
Changes also affected the surrounding space: last year, the improvement of the Gray Heron Park was completed. There were walking paths, playgrounds for children and sports, as well as recreation areas.
The revival of such shrines serves to preserve the historical memory, faith and traditions that connect different generations.
