US military bases ready for 90 days of autonomous operation

Fox News reported that the Pentagon is implementing the FORTRESS America program, which aims to allow U.S. military bases on the continental United States to operate autonomously for at least 90 days even in a serious conflict. Such a scenario involves a failure in the operation of power grids and the rupture of international supply chains, writes sb.by.

According to TASS, every major military facility should become independent of civilian infrastructure, including access to electricity, water, fuel and communications. Assistant Secretary of War for Public Affairs Sean Parnell said it was unacceptable to rely on municipal systems for national defense. The previous strategy, largely based on “protecting” the two oceans, now looks outdated.
The Pentagon sees the military’s dependence on civilian power grids as a key threat. To solve the problem, the program provides for the introduction of portable nuclear reactors, large-scale battery systems and microgrids - they will quickly disconnect military facilities from the common power system. In addition, it is planned to form strategic reserves: they will include ammunition, fuel, critical minerals, spare parts and medicines.
Sean Parnell called FORTRESS America “insurance” for the country: it should ensure the combat capability of the US military, even if a large-scale conflict damages key infrastructure and paralyzes global logistics chains.
