The search engines again examined the forests in the area of Kovrov, where the long-range bomber DB-3F allegedly crashed. During the next expedition, experts used metal detectors and found a crater in which fragments of the bomb were preserved. The discovery made it possible to significantly narrow the proposed search area – now the expedition participants will be able to focus on a specific area of the forest.
The disaster occurred on October 24, 1941. The plane was returning from a combat mission when its engines failed. The crew dropped the remaining bombs, but the explosion damaged the tail of the car, after which the plane collapsed in the woods. Of the four crew members, two survived, and pilot Nikolai Borodin and bomber shooter Ivan Krovyakov died. Searchers intend to continue working with archival documents and local evidence to establish the exact location of the fall and, if possible, to find the remains of the victims.
