Russians warned about a new scheme of fraudsters with receipts for housing and communal services

Scammers send Russians fake payments for housing and communal services to steal money using QR codes. Fake receipts indicating non-existent debts are left in mailboxes. This was reported in the interior Ministry of Russia, reports TASS.

After scanning the code, the funds can go directly to the accounts of criminals. In other cases, the QR code leads to phishing sites that allow obtaining personal data of citizens, or offers to install a malicious application.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs recommends checking the authenticity of payment documents, paying attention to a suspiciously small amount, errors in the sender’s data and the inconsistency of the site address with the official service provider resource. If the money has already been transferred to fraudsters, it is necessary to contact the bank as soon as possible to block the card and contact the police.

Earlier, the interior Ministry urged not to believe the promises to quickly issue a passport.
