Style will be replaced by a storm: Novosibirsk warned of a magnetic storm on September 24
After a long period of cosmic lull, the geomagnetic situation over Novosibirsk will change dramatically

The cause of the instability was a giant coronal hole that formed on the Sun and stretched from its south pole directly to the equator. According to the calculations of scientists, the planet will “turn face” to this active zone, which is why the probability of a full-fledged magnetic storm on this day is estimated at 65%.
It is expected that closer to noon the disturbances will peak and develop into a weak magnetic storm of class G1 (about 4-5 points on the Kp scale). The situation is aggravated by the so-called Russell-McFerron effect. Because of the recent autumn equinox, the Earth’s natural magnetic shield is now at such an angle to orbit that it is more efficient at passing solar plasma, making the planet more vulnerable even to weak cosmic winds.
On the other hand, such increased activity increases the chances of residents of the Novosibirsk region to notice in the night sky, a rare aurora for these latitudes.
Doctors advise weather-dependent Siberians to treat the forecast of space weather in a balanced manner, avoiding panic and the effect of nocebo (when health worsens only from anxious expectation). However, people with chronic cardiovascular diseases should keep on hand prescribed medications. To minimize the risks of migraines, weakness or jumps in blood pressure, during Thursday it is recommended to give up strong coffee, avoid severe physical overload, observe the drinking regime and try to get a full sleep.
According to preliminary models, the storm will not last long: by the evening of September 24 and during Friday, the magnetosphere will begin to return to its usual calm state.
