The nature of the Smolensk region gradually passes into the winter, but in the Gagarin and Roslavl districts, fishing enthusiasts continue to actively use water bodies. Due to the fact that the navigation period for small ships officially ends on November 2, inspectors of the state inspection for small ships began to conduct patrol raids to ensure the safety of citizens.
Autumn conditions on rivers and lakes carry serious risks, such as a sharp drop in water temperature, sudden gusts of wind and unpredictable weather changes. Any negligence in such circumstances can lead to tragic consequences.
During the patrol, rescue officers check compliance with basic safety rules. Particular attention is paid to the availability and proper use of life jackets, checking ship's documents and driving licenses, as well as monitoring the absence of alcohol intoxication, compliance with the permissible weight of equipment and the number of people on board.
In addition to checking documents, inspectors conduct explanatory conversations with ship owners, recalling the insidiousness of autumn reservoirs. Employees of the EMERCOM of Russia warn that after November 2, navigation in the Smolensk region is closed, with the exception of the Desnogorsk reservoir and Lake Soshno, where swimming is allowed year-round. They emphasize that going to the water after the deadline not only entails administrative responsibility, but also poses a mortal danger.
At the end of the interview, fishermen receive information leaflets containing safety instructions and contact details of emergency services.
