Sochi may face a garbage collapse: the capacity of landfills exhausted
Sochi introduced a high-alert regime due to problems in the system of solid municipal waste management

In Sochi, a high-alert regime was introduced due to problems in the system of solid municipal waste management. The corresponding order of the Governor of the Krasnodar Territory Veniamin Kondratiev published on the website of the regional administration.
As follows from the document, the free capacity of landfills for waste disposal has been exhausted, and it is currently impossible to redirect garbage to alternative facilities. This situation creates a risk of interruptions in the collection and removal of waste, their accumulation in public and private areas, as well as the emergence of unauthorized landfills.
In addition to Sochi, the high-alert regime operates in Novorossiysk, Hot Key, Tuapse municipal district and six municipal districts of the Krasnodar Territory.
The Ministry of Fuel and Energy Complex and Housing and Communal Services of the region was instructed to prepare a plan for the creation and reconstruction of waste treatment and disposal facilities by November 16.
The municipal authorities are advised to monitor the situation and inform the population. Regional operators should ensure the timely disposal of garbage, and the organizations operating landfills are invited to continue their use until the lifting of the high-alert regime.
The introduction of a special regime is associated with the need to prevent disruptions in the municipal system and reduce the risk of accumulation of waste in settlements.
Earlier it was reported that at the resort before the heating season, almost twice as many worn-out heating networks were replaced as planned.
