Events dedicated to the 83rd anniversary of the liberation of the first Belarusian settlement of the country from Nazi invaders were held in the town of Komarin, Bragin district. Belta writes about it.

In memory of the landmark event, the Komarins of different generations and guests of the village marched in a column along one of the main streets to the mass grave of Soviet soldiers and partisans, where a lithium was held about those who liberated the Braginsky district and the town settlement. At the memorial to the soldiers-liberators held a solemn rally.
On September 23, 1943, the troops of the 13th Army under the command of Lieutenant-General Nikolai Pukhov during the Chernihiv-Pripyat operation liberated the first settlement of Belarus - at that time the district center of the Polesie region - the town of Komarin. Today, the rally reminded that the morning of that 824th day of the war was blacker than night from dust, smoke and burning. The battle for the Dnieper became one of the most large-scale and bloody operations of the Great Patriotic War. Only in the local mass grave of Soviet soldiers buried hundreds of people, six of them - Heroes of the Soviet Union, who died during the crossing of the Dnieper and the liberation of Komarin and neighboring villages. More than 20 people who distinguished themselves during the crossing of the Dnieper in the Komarin area were presented to the title of Hero of the Soviet Union.
As it was noted at the rally, Komarin carefully preserves the memory of the heroes: next to the entrance sign there is information about the liberation of the town settlement, in the center there is a monument to soldiers-liberators, a mass grave where the remains of more than 900 soldiers, a stele lie. On the wall of the Komarin City House of Culture, a mural appeared with the image of two heroes of the Soviet Union - natives of Bragin region Sergey Stepanovich Matsapura and Pavel Ivanovich Shpetny. The names of the heroes who liberated Komarin are immortalized in the names of the streets - Grechushkin and Pavlovsky.
Warmly congratulated the residents of the village on this date, Chairman of the Braginsky District Council of Deputies Inna Mikhalenko and Deputy of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly Zhanna Chernyavskaya. They wished them all good health, well-being and peace over their heads.
“Today, we bow our heads before the memory of those who, at the cost of their lives, restored freedom and peace to us. Unfortunately, the participants and witnesses of those fiery events are no longer with us, but their patriotism of that generation remains a moral and spiritual guide for us. The victory came at a difficult price: hundreds of Soviet soldiers died in the bloody battle for Komarin. Their feat is a sacred page of history, which we must carefully preserve and pass on from generation to generation, said Inna Mikhalenko.
The deputy also noted that today Komarin is a developing and blooming village. “It is impossible not to fall in love with it once, there is something here that makes it distinctive, unlike other settlements. Perhaps the location played a role: it is located on the banks of the Dnieper, surrounded by deciduous and coniferous trees. Perhaps the residents themselves make it so, creating a special atmosphere with daily creative work, love for their native land. Here live and work wonderful, talented and hearty people - the heirs of the legendary generation of Winners. Never give up the honor and glory of your fathers, grandfathers and great-grandfathers.
On behalf of the Komarins of the younger generation, Veronika Belchenko, a student of the Komarinska Shpetny High School, assured that the youth will do everything to preserve the light of grateful memory.
In the village, where the victorious procession began, the “March of Peace through the native land” was made by young peacekeepers. This event was organized by the Gomel regional branch of the Belarusian Peace Fund.
