In Belarus for the first time performed surgery for endometriosis with ICG technology
For the first time in Belarus, the Minsk City Clinical Gynecology Center conducted a high-tech operation for deep infiltrative endometriosis using ICG technology - it allows you to clearly visualize the affected tissues and neighboring organs in infrared light.

For the first time in Belarus, the Minsk City Clinical Gynecology Center successfully performed an operation to treat deep infiltrative endometriosis – ICG technology was used during the intervention. The event was included in the program of the scientific and practical conference, which was held with the participation of foreign specialists. Information about this was provided by BelTA in the Health Committee of the Minsk City Executive Committee.
ICG immunofluorescence imaging technology using infrared light has not been used in Belarus before. Its advantage is that it allows you to clearly distinguish the boundaries of the affected tissues and clearly determine the location of neighboring organs – this is critical if the disease has affected the intestines.
The health committee reported that a high-tech operation with a complex form of deep infiltrative endometriosis, complicated by damage to the colon, was performed by Professor Alexander Popov, head of the Department of Operational Gynecology with Oncogynecology of the Moscow Regional Research Institute of Obstetrics and Gynecology. The Russian surgeon was assisted by specialists of the Minsk Gynecology Center.
How does ICG technology work
The ICG method is based on the introduction of a special dye preparation into the body: under the influence of infrared radiation, it stains organs and tissues in green, allowing them to be clearly visualized.
Application experience and perspectives in gynecology
Larisa Mavricheva, Deputy Chief Physician for the Medical Department of the Minsk Center, explained that the technology initially proved itself well in oncology: with its help, metastases in the lymph nodes were accurately detected - this increased the radicality of operations and increased the chances of patients to recover. Now the method is beginning to be used in general gynecology - it opens up new opportunities for detailed imaging of tissues during interventions.
Progress and results of a unique operation
As part of the Minsk broadcast, doctors in practice showed how to treat deep infiltrative endometriosis. Despite the fact that the disease belongs to benign processes, in this case it manifested an aggressive course: the pathological focus sprouted from the small pelvis to neighboring organs. The young patient developed a stenosing infiltrate - it narrowed the lumen of the intestine.
Surgeons performed laparoscopic intervention: access was carried out through small punctures. The operation lasted more than two hours. Doctors successfully removed about 7-8 cm of the affected area of the intestine and fully restored its integrity. Timely planned intervention allowed to avoid in the future emergency surgery due to acute intestinal obstruction.
Importance of the event for the health system
Chief specialist of the department of medical care for mothers and children of the Health Committee of the Minsk City Executive Committee Irina Ikonostasova stressed that holding such large-scale events is of strategic importance for domestic medicine. The exchange of experience at the international level and the introduction of innovative technologies help to constantly improve the quality of medical care for women and preserve their reproductive health.
The forum brought together leading experts from Belarus, China, Russia and Azerbaijan – joint work allowed to demonstrate advanced approaches and discuss their application in clinical practice.
Experience and readiness for development
Belarusian gynecologists already have considerable experience in the treatment of such pathologies: since 2018, 38 patients with severe lesions of the colon have been successfully operated on at the Minsk Gynecology Center. At the same time, doctors note that there is no limit to improvement, and express their readiness to master new methods in cooperation with leading world experts.
