In Kostroma, a drunk driver was replaced by forced labor
Kostroma regional court has toughened the sentence of 44-year-old local resident, re-caught behind the wheel while drunk

The Kostroma regional court has toughened the sentence of a 44-year-old local resident, re-caught behind the wheel while drunk. According to the appeal of the supervisory authority, the monetary fine to the man was replaced by real forced labor.
The incident occurred on the evening of May 7 in the village of Shuvalovo, Kostroma district. The man, who already had a criminal record for similar drunk driving, again sat behind the wheel while drunk - this time driving an ATV. There he was detained by DPS inspectors.
The court of first instance found the driver guilty under Part 2 of Art. 264.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation and sentenced to a fine of 350 thousand rubles, a ban to drive for 3 years and 7 months, and also confiscated the ATV itself to the state income.
However, the state prosecutor from the prosecutor's office considered such a verdict excessively soft and appealed against it, pointing to the high public danger of the actions of the recidivist. The judicial board for criminal cases of the regional court agreed with the arguments of the prosecutor. As a result, the fine was replaced by 10 months of forced labor with the retention of 10% of earnings in favor of the state. The decision has entered into force.
