The place of installation of the monument was not chosen by chance. The Petrovsky Canal with a length of 117 kilometers runs along the coast of Lake Ladoga and connects the Neva and Volkhov rivers. At the beginning of the XVIII century it was considered the largest hydraulic structure in Europe. And now, unfortunately, it has become shallow and is in a rather sad state.
It also remains to add that in Novaya Ladoga there is another art object of fishing orientation. This is a monument to the smelt on the Volkhov embankment. It was opened in May 2026 during the festival "Smell is coming!".
Earlier, "MK in Leningrad region" said that the territory of the "House of station caretaker" will be turned into a museum and cultural center.
