The Soviet district court of Ulan-Ude extended the term of detention of a citizen of the People's Republic of China accused of a crime in the sphere of illicit trafficking in precious metals. The foreigner will be detained until December 2, 2026.
According to the investigation, the man, acting as part of a group of persons by prior conspiracy, illegally acquired from an unidentified person a precious metal — natural gold — in an especially large amount, worth more than 20 million rubles, the press service of the Soviet district court said.
When making the decision, the court took into account the totality of information about the identity of the accused: he is a citizen of a foreign state, does not have a permanent place of residence and close relatives in Russia, and is also accused of committing an intentional grave crime. Once at liberty, the accused may abscond from the investigation and the court or otherwise obstruct the investigation of a criminal case.
The ruling has not entered into legal force.
