In correctional colony No. 3 of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia in the Ulyanovsk region, a divine liturgy was held. Convicted believers were able to confess, commune and pray for their loved ones. The service was conducted by priest Evgeny Toymenev.
The religious event took place on Sunday, October 25. The clergyman of the Church of St. Luke of Crimea, Priest Eugene Toymenev, arrived at the institution.
During the liturgy, the priest performed the sacraments of Confession and Communion for convicts professing Orthodoxy. The worshippers also prayed for their own well-being and the health of their relatives.
After the prayer, Father Eugene addressed the audience with a sermon. The main topics of the conversation were the meaning of human life, repentance and ideas about eternity in the Orthodox tradition.
The priest paid special attention to inner experiences and actions that can prevent a person from building relationships with others. He urged the convicts to think about their own life choices and the possibilities of spiritual change.
Such meetings are held in correctional institutions as part of spiritual and pastoral work with people serving sentences.
UFSIN notes that such events are aimed at moral support of convicts, help them rethink life values and pay attention to spiritual development.
